Data from the state health department showed that as of Friday, Maharashtra has registered 142 cases of the H1N1 type of flu and 7 fatalities due to the flu virus.

According to data issued by the state health department on Friday, Mumbai had the most cases (43) in Maharashtra in 2022 despite having no H1N1 deaths in the previous three years. Mumbai had 44 H1N1 cases in 2020 and 64 cases in 2021.

While BMC figures show no increase, doctors in Mumbais private sector are citing an increase in H1N1 flu infections. Dr Amol Manerkar stated an increase in non-Covid pneumonia among his patients in the Ghatkopar-Kurla area.

Experts from a BMC-run hospital reported a significant increase in fever cases in daily OPDs, but the numbers being recorded are minimal because there is no fast test for H1N1 like there is for Covid-19. (ETHealthWorld, July 23, 2022)
